This system uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/uavrt.nau.edu\/index.php\/docs\/radiotelem\/softwaredefinedradio\/\">Software Defined Radio (SDR)<\/a> front-end and is designed to be utilized as a wildlife tracking tool in addition to\/instead of the traditional handheld receiver. By replacing the audio data input, usually retrieved from a handheld receiver, with I\/Q signal data, the team is able to develop signal processing algorithms for RF signal detection and tag localization. Simply put, the team has developed a radio telemetry system that can be installed onto a UAV and used to record incoming very high frequency (VHF) signal from tagged wildlife. Using this recorded signal and custom signal processing the system will create an estimated tag location.
